The needles used are disposable, stainless steel, and as thin as a hair.  Nothing like the needles used to draw blood or other medical tests.  While a small percentage of people will be sensitive to the insertion of needles, many others will either feel nothing with needle insertion or just a tiny pinch.  The stainless steel needles used do have nickel, but it is a very small amount (something like 0.001%).  Of the people that have been treated with a nickel allergy, none have had a reaction.  Gold needles can be used if you have a nickel allergy.

Here at Yellow Tortoise Healing Arts, the licensed practitioner uses a distal technique.  Distal acupuncture primarily uses points between the feet to the knees and hands to elbows and not the site of local pain ie the back if back pain is present.  It has been found to help the whole body balance itself with less irritation.  Distal treatment has the advantage of not requiring to take off any clothes.  Loose pants and shirts that can rolled up to the knees and elbows can be worn.

  Acupuncture is not a magic pill that instantly fixes what ails you.  It requires multiple treatments depending on the issue and the individual.
